About the presenter

Converting the soldering process from a Tin/Lead process to one using Lead-free solders requires more than simply exchanging the metals from one type to another. Operators must be educated and trained on the differences between the new and old materials as well as the inspection requirements when using the new alloys. The development of these new programs must take into consideration the process impact due to the component termination metallurgy, the laminate changes, and the alloy changes.

The training department therefore has to introduce all these elements to the personnel who will be doing the work and conducting training programs within their facility. This webcast will discuss the steps necessary to provide skills development and knowledge acquisition programs in an efficient manner. Some of the differences created with the introduction of Lead-Free solder from previous revisions of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 will also be covered. Information will also be provided on how to select the best program to bring operators up to date on the latest changes in the industry.
