Question: Do Nail Head Type surface mount terminals meet the criteria of J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610, or rather, has the IPC established any criteria for this type of component?

Answer: I know that Flat Post Connections have been added to the 610 and 001 document, see section 8.3.15.2 of 610 for the acceptable conditions. There is also a caveat in the general heading stating the criteria has not been established for Class 3 products for this type of termination, but I’m sure if the proper component comes out and a Class 3 customer wants it, they we will put it into their documentation package.
